Genèse: JUST SO won the first ever Vivian Ellis Prize for young musical writers in 1985 and was subsequently acquired by Cameron Mackintosh, who has overseen it's development. The show had it's first professional try-out at the Watermill Theatre in Newbury, England in May 1989 as a co-production with Cameron, directed by Julia McKenzie. The show received an off-West End production in 1990 at the Tricycle Theatre, directed by Mike Ockrent. The production was nominated for "Best Musical" and "Most Promising Newcomers" at the 1990 London Drama Critics Awards, and was then optioned by Steven Spielberg for feature animation (a project which was sadly lost between the cracks when Amblimation became a part of Dreamworks SKG.) In 1998 a reworked version of JUST SO had its American try-out at the Goodspeed's Norma Terris Theatre in Connecticut. North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, MA presented JUST SO in June 2001 with direction by writer Anthony Drewe.
Résumé: Set at the beginning of time, along Africa’s Limpopo River, the Eldest Magician created a world full of beasts, birds and fish. Everything was just so, until Pau Amma the Crab began playing with the ocean, causing a flood that threatened the other animals. To stop the crab, the Elephant’s Child must embark on a quest down the Limpopo River. With the help of the Kolokolo Bird they discover a world of weird and wonderful creatures and learn how the leopard got his spots, how the rhinoceros got his skin, and how curiosity and a hungry crocodile can turn an elephant’s small nose into a very large trunk.

Genèse: PETER PAN - A Musical Adventure first saw light of day in Denmark, at the International Musical Of The Year in 1996, where it won two top awards for Best Song (WHEN I KILL PETER PAN performed by the late Denis Quilley) and The Orchestra's Award (chosen by the orchestra who performed the short-listed works). In 1999 it was seen in a full production at Det Ny Teater in Copenhagen, performed in Danish. Under the direction of Julia McKenzie and Jonathan Butterell a staged concert, with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, was produced as a one-off event at the Royal Festival Hall in 2001 - which was broadcast on BBC Radio 3 - starring John Thaw as Captain Hook, Joe MacFaddden as Peter Pan, Jenna Russell as Mrs Darling, and Sheila Hancock as the Storyteller. The performance also boasted a first in that Wendy, Michael and John were played by three real-life siblings, Laura Michelle Kelly and her brothers Jorim and Nathan. A fuller semi-staged version, with the London Symphony Orchestra, was mounted at the Royal Festival Hall over Christmas 2002 starring Richard Wilson and James Gillan, with Suzannah York as the Storyteller and Lottie Meyer as Wendy. That same winter it was also seen for the first time in the USA, at the Prince Theatre in Philadelphia. Sadly bookwriter, Willis Hall, died in March 2005, aged 75. The show received it`s first fully-staged British production at Birmingham Repertory Theatre in December 2007, where it was directed by Rachel Kavanaugh, designed by Peter McKintosh and choreographed by Jenny Arnold. The cast included David Birrell as Captain Hook, Peter Caulfield as Peter Pan, Gay Soper as the Storyteller and Gina Beck as Wendy. This version was revived for Christmas 2008 at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, where David Birrell reprised his role as Hook and James Gillan, Amy Lennox and Alwyne Taylor assumed the roles of Peter Pan, Wendy and the Storyteller, with Martin Callaghan as Smee. It is this cast that have now been immortalised on the CD recording.

Genèse: Betty Blue Eyes opened at the Novello Theatre in the West End, London, on April 13, 2011, following previews from March 19, in a production directed by Richard Eyre, with musical staging by Stephen Mear and design by Tim Hatley. The orchestrations were by William David Brohn. The cast consisted of Sarah Lancashire as Joyce Chilvers, Reece Shearsmith as Gilbert Chilvers, David Bamber as Doctor Swaby, Jack Edwards as Mr Allardyce, Ann Emery as Mother Dear, Mark Meadows as Lockwood and Adrian Scarborough as Inspector Wormold. Despite positive reviews the musical closed in London on September 24, 2011, after a run of just six months.
Résumé: In a small Northern town in 1947 the townsfolk are suffering from the continuing food rationing. Councillor Swaby and some similarly corrupt local businessmen plan to celebrate the forthcoming marriage of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip with a lavish pork supper, and are illegally raising a pig for their “private function”, even though one of the men, Henry Allardyce, has found himself strangely attracted to the beautiful blue eyes of the pig herself. However, the pig is stolen by a local chiropodist, Gilbert Chilvers, encouraged by his socially ambitious wife Joyce, in protest against the Town Council’s refusal to grant him planning permission. Joyce’s confused and elderly Mother Dear, over-hearing talk of “killing the unmentionable” believes she is the intended victim of this murder. Meantime, a fanatical Inspector Wormold, from the Ministry of Food, is on the lookout for illegal pigbreeding, while Betty, the stolen pig, is hidden in the Chilvers’s bathroom, from where she emits great clouds of green methane gas.

A modern twist on the Cinderella story
Genèse: Inception and development George Stiles and Anthony Drewe started work on Soho Cinders in 2000, having come up with the idea of updating a very basic version of Cinderella into something different in the 1990s.[3] In the summer of 2000, Drewe and George Stiles sat in Regents Park to start developing their adaptation and wrote a lot of it in France at Stiles' sister-in-law's house. Although the musical was almost finished, the pair had been busy with other projects like Honk, Betty Blue Eyes and Mary Poppins, which hindered their progress on Soho Cinders. Workshops for the musical began in the early 2000s but it was not until 6 July 2008 that some of the musical's songs were exclusively premiered at Her Majesty's Theatre as part of a gala concert that celebrated the 25th anniversary of Stiles and Drewe's songwriting partnership, entitled A Spoonful of Stiles and Drewe. The pair debuted the songs "Wishing for the Normal", "I'm So Over Men", "Gypsies of the Ether", "It's Hard to Tell", "They Don't Make Glass Slippers" and "You Shall Go to the Ball". Singers included Gareth Gates, Leanne Jones, Oliver Tompsett, Joanna Riding and Claire Moore as well as Rebecca Thornhill, Daniel Boys, Alison Jiear, Richard Dempsey and James Gillan as ensemble members. A one-off charity gala concert then followed on 9 October 2011 with an all star cast and a 16-piece band led by George Stileson in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. Stiles and Drewe describe Soho Cinders as "rawer" and "grown-up" in comparison to their previous work. They wanted to make Soho Cinders satirical and political and set it in the present day; different from their other work of fairy tales and period pieces. On the pair's website, Soho Cinders is described as a "fable for the noughties" that is inspired by musicals like Guys and Dolls, which achieve a world which never really existed but you kind of feel might have done. They are a heightened version of a past time. The pair have attempted to create a version of London in its current state. They have acknowledged Soho Cinders as both comedic, romantic but a musical that touches on a few serious issues. Production history Soho Cinders had a gala concert production at the Queen's Theatre on 9 October 2011 in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. The concert, which was supported by Whatsonstage.com, was sold-out and featured a cast of West End performers: Jos Slovick as Robbie; Michael Xavier as James Prince; Amy Lennox as Velcro; Beverley Rudd and Suzie Chard as Dana and Clodagh; David Bedella as William George; Hannah Waddingham as Marilyn Platt; Richard David-Caine as Sasha; Clive Carter as Lord Bellingham; Sharon D Clarke as Chelle and Sandi Toksvig as a narrator. In 2012, Soho Cinders received its world premiere as a full-scale production at Soho Theatre, running from 3 August to 9 September 2012. Although there are some changes, the cast includes most of the performers who were present at the 2011 gala concert production. The changes include Thomas Milner as Robbie; Gerard Carey as William Ceorge; Jenna Russell as Marilyn Platt; Raj Ghatak as Sasha; Neil McCaul as Lord Bellingham; Amanda Posenor as Sidesaddle (previously Chelle). The production also features the voice of Stephen Fry as a narrator. It is produced by Jamie Hendry in collabotation with the Booking Office, Daniel Sparrow and Mike Walksh Productions and Neil Marcus and is directed by Jonathan Butterell with choreography from Drewe McOnie and design by Morgan Large, Hugh Vanstone (lighting) and Adam Fisher (sound). The United States premiere of Soho Cinders will take place in Dallas Texas at Uptown Players from June 13-22, 2014. In October 2019, the production was revived yet again on a 'limited run' set to end in December at the Charing Cross Theatre starring Luke Bayer and Millie O'Connell.
Résumé: Soho Cinders is loosely base on the story of Cinderella. It is a modern musical fable that is set and celebrates the London district of Soho which mixes politics, sex-scandals and true love in a story about an impoverished student Robbie, who is paying for his college bills in a somewhat unorthodox way, becoming romantically involved with the engaged prospective mayoral candidate James Prince. James and Robbie's worlds collide forcing them to fight for their own fairy-tale ending in this hilarious, satirical twist on the classic Cinderella story.

West End (2017) On 8 November 2016, it was announced that the musical will transfer into the West End at the London Palladium, with previews beginning 17 June and opening night 29 June. Rufus Hound will reprise the role of Toad, further cast to be announced.
